North Runcton Rockets clinched Norfolk Softball Hundred Cup glory at the weekend.
The team defeated Norwich Ladies in the showpiece held at Downham Stow Cricket Club.
Runcton lost the toss and Norwich elected to bowl first.
Jackie Bunting and Kerry Fuller opened the batting for the Rockets and set the precedent for what was a consistent innings.
Norwich bowled well and the damp pitch limited Runcton’s ability to hit big.
However, Runcton ended on 297/1 with Jade Ring top scoring with 18.
Next, it was time for Norwich to reply.
Runcton made it very difficult for their opposition to get off the mark.
After the first pair, Norwich were on a deficit at 199, having lost three wickets due to fast, accurate bowling from captain Jenny May and Everleigh Defty.
After just short of 10 overs had been played, the heavens opened and play was delayed. Norwich were on 225/3.
After a lot of deliberation over the pitch’s condition, play resumed.
Jade Ring came in and completed bowling her over with a wicket off her first ball.
Energy was high and both teams were hungry for the win.
However, Norwich were thwarted by superb fielding from Runcton and even stronger bowling.
Runcton claimed a further four wickets with Jenny May bringing her tally to four.
The Rockets secured the title and brought the cup back to West Norfolk, with Norwich ending on 245/8.
