Reigning champions Heacham get their season back on track

Reigning champions Heacham Under-14s got their season back on track with a 6-0 victory over a rapidly-improving Watlington side.

The returning Chimay Boldero steadied matters at the back in this Mid Norfolk Youth League (MNYL) girls’ clash, allowing skipper Mercedes Ottoway to open the scoring inside 10 minutes.

An unfortunate own goal and a Summer Mann hat-trick put the result beyond doubt, before Ottoway grabbed her second of the day from the spot as proceedings drew to a close.

Player-of-the-match went to Poppy Hollingworth for her impressive wing play throughout.

The draw proved to be very unkind to Gaywood in the inaugural Under 14 Girls County Cup, as they fell to a 13-0 defeat away at Wymondham Wolves.

In the Under 12 Girls division, all three title-chasing sides secured handsome wins on the road to keep their challenge alive and kicking.

Gaywood overcame KLSC Lionesses 11-2, with goals from Erin Frost (4), Eleanor Demonty (2), Ellie Wright (2), Ruby Smith (2), and Taylor Scotney.

Summer Ellis and Ella Turner provided the consolations for KLSC.

A fantastic five for Tia Rowland, a hat-trick for Evie Drew, and a Ruby Carter strike did the damage for Watlington against Heacham.

Evelyn Brennock did get one back for Heacham, but it was in vain as it finished 9-1.

Finally, Terrington were too strong for Necton on the day, overcoming a tricky opening spell to eventually dominate proceedings in taking a 7-1 win.

Laila Ringer (3), Poppy Allan, Aaliyah Dennis, Keelee Wright, Alise Senina hit the back of the net for Terrington, with Millie Giles grabbing Necton’s only goal of the game.

Both coaches were keen after the game to give praise to James Warner, who is a young referee finding his way in the game, giving another very impressive performance.
