Reflley Reserves run riot in Charlie Day cup final

Recently-crowned league winners Reffley Reserves completed a league and cup double after running riot with an 11-0 win over KLSC A on Saturday.

The historic Charlie Day Cup has seen many closely fought contests in recent years, but this certainly wasn’t one of those at Heacham on Saturday.

KLSC started the quickest as Charlie Edgley pounced on a defensive mistake to find himself through one-on-one with Paul Sainty in the Reffley goal, but the goalkeeper got down well to keep the score goalless after three minutes.

On the 10-minute mark, Reffley hit the target for the first of many as Shane Cousin smashed into the top of the net after the KLSC shotstopper could only parry Dion Evans’ low shot.

Minutes later, man-of-the-match Alfie Moulder doubled the Red’s lead as his corner kick deceived everyone to land directly in the far corner of the goal.

Before you knew it, Dion Evans registered his first of the game as he calmly slotted away a penalty to make it 3-0.

Before half-time, a smart dink from Paul Phillips and a clever chipped shot from Evans ensured Reffley went in 5-0 to the good at the interval.

KLSC A came out second half knowing they needed some sort of miracle to get their hands on the trophy but did have arguably their best period of the game with some half chances in the first 10 minutes.

However, Moulder and a double from substitute Tom Edwards in quick succession to put Reffley 8-0 up by 70th minute.

Things went from bad to worst for KLSC A as skipper Jesse Kirk received a red card from referee Rob Bunting after a late tackle.

Before the full-time whistle, there were three more goals including more strikes from Evans and Edwards to ensure an emphatic 11-0 victory for Reffley Reserves.
