After a previous very busy one, the majority of Ryston Runners were taking it easy last weekend.
Two notable exceptions were Julie Williamson and Justin Walker who, opting not to rest their legs after running the Amsterdam Marathon just a week before, were among the 1,200 taking part in the IWM Duxford Dash at the museum’s airfield just outside Cambridge.
Both were credited with third places in their categories in the 10K event, although Julie later discovered she had been elevated to second F40 after placing 78th out of 250 finishers with 45:06. Justin’s third place was in the M50 age group, with him finishing 57th overall in 43:16.
Also competing at the weekend was Jimmy Hornigold who ran the 5K on offer at High Lodge in the Forest Runner Series. He was 16th out of 54 in 31:59, on a tough forest trail course. Half a dozen juniors took part in the opening event of the 2023 Sportshall League.
Carried over from last week, Paul Firmage covered 8K in 66:41 in the B race event that was the Enfield Race Walking League fixture held at Ilford as part of Ilford AC’s Centenary Celebrations.
