A late moment of magic from captain Jane Proctor saw Pelicans Ladies come from behind to beat Cambridge Fifths to reignite their hopes of a top-five finish. The home side found themselves a goal down going into the interval at Alive Lynnsport before goals from Jess Walker and Proctor saw Pelicans complete a dramatic turnaround in the second half.Speaking after the win, ladies skipper Proctor praised her side’s battling qualities, saying: “We left it until the final seconds to get the winning goal after a hard-fought encounter.”It wasn’t our greatest performance but it was great team-work for our winning goal.”Both teams fought hard from the whistle, with a large crowd to support the home side looking to carry them to victory. The first half was very end-to-end with most of the action happening in the midfield and possession constantly changing hands.Visiting Cambridge stunned their hosts by taking the lead following an excellent run down the left wing and a strike which left the home goalkeeper with no chance. The second half saw plenty of action, with a few frustrations starting to show.Pelicans were soon back on level terms as Jess Walker deflected in an initial shot from Proctor at the far post.In the closing moments, just as the home side were looking to take their skipper off, Proctor worked her magic around the City defence before firing a shot through the goalkeeper from the top of the circle. The game ended 2-1 to Pelicans, who now sit fifth in the league standings, level on points with Peterborough.Pelicans Ladies travel to Spalding 1s on Saturday as they look to complete a league double over their Lincolnshire rivals.
