The day after attending the YLP Local Hero Awards as a sportsman finalist, karter Jenson Sayell headed to Shenington in Oxfordshire for Round Two of the CKC Intermax Championship. With qualifying and two heats on Saturday, followed by two Super Heats and a Final on Sunday, a total of 200 points was on offer.Saturday’s qualifying was very close with 0.55 of a second separating the top 14 karts. Sayell qualified fifth, just 0.19 off pole.Heat 1 proved a tough race, dropping as low as eighth, then up to third two laps later where he finished, promoted to second post race when the winner was disqualified after failing scrutineering.Heat Two was again hard from fifth but Sayell finished third. The heat results gave Sayell a position of second for Sunday’s Super Heats. In Sunday’s first Super Heat, the Marshland St James had a good start, staying second until lap three when he dropped to third whilst still shadowing the lead two.As he predicted, the leaders clashed and Sayell was there to snatch second place. The second Super Heat started dramatically for Sayell with him being squeezed into the pit corner on the first lap, spinning him round into the oncoming pack. He was hit again, sending him spinning into the tyre barrier. As the race went under caution, he rejoined in 11th.When the caution was lifted on lap three Sayell started his come back taking two karts and a fastest lap. He took a further four places on the next lap and was up to fourth a lap later, where he finished. The Super Heat results put him second on the grid for the big point Final. Sayell got a good start and tucked in behind the leader. He held the position for all of 12 minutes with the two pushing ahead from the pack for much of the race. He crossed the line 0.13 behind the leader to take 95 valuable points and a runner-up podium. His dad Rob said: “Jenson showed great maturity this weekend, thinking tactically whilst racing at 67 miles per hour to achieve great championship points (190).” Sayell thanks TWR and Pantano and driver coach AJ for their support and encouragement, Force Motorsport for a strong engine and his sponsors JLK Vehicle Solutions, Ark East Anglia Ltd, Sun Lounge Tanning Studio, Chris Phillips – Superstox 99, Hall Clean, Prestige Designs and Custom Racewear. The youngster’s next outing is for the Super One Championship Rounds Three and Four in North Wales at the technical Glan Y Gors kart circuit.
