Pelicans ladies came out on top of a rollercoaster encounter at home to Cambridge University 3rds on Sunday.
The team has never been short of a goal or two and that trend was continued in a pulsating East Women’s Division 2 North West affair at Alive Lynnsport.
A thrilling first half saw the teams locked at 3-3 going into the break before the home side’s extra quality shone through in the second half.
Captain Jane Proctor said: “From me excellent team performance from all and a very well-deserved win. Every single person put 100 per cent in.”
Player-coach Kiona Sequeira echoed her captain’s sentiments, saying: “We really had great structure and held our own out there. We dictated the game and the pace we wanted to play at, it was a great game to play in.”
Pelicans took the lead from a well-worked short corner routine. Defender Jess Williams received the ball on the post and slotted it into the bottom corner.
Cambridge then got going, punishing the home outfit to score two goals in quick succession.
Megan Antliff then was ready for a rebound from Emma Hotchin’s shot to level matters at 2-2.
The visitors regained the advantage from a well-worked short corner routine of their own.
One thing this ladies’ team possesses is spirit in abundance and Sequeira found a perfect gap among the Cambridge players with a long ball into the circle which found Proctor, who converted past the goalkeeper to make it 3-3 going into half-time.
Almost straight from the restart, Pelicans caught the students slacking with Bianca Fraulo Hilario perfectly deflecting a ball in from Sequeira to put Pelicans 4-3 up.
Goal machine Proctor added another goal to her ever-growing tally, by reversing the ball into the goal following a great run from player-of-the-match Daisy Nicholas.
A great team performance by a strong Pelicans side who travel to Cambridge City 4ths on Saturday.
