Pelicans Hockey Club continued their preparations for the forthcoming campaign by hosting a pre-season tournament at Alive Lynnsport on Saturday.
Both the men’s and ladies first teams were in action as the club welcomed teams from Dereham, Spalding and Wisbech on a glorious day.
Under the guidance of coach Sean Kerry, Pelicans men found themselves 1-0 up in their first game against Wisbech thanks to a goal from Ian Simons.
Further goals from Eddie Van Aalst and then a penalty flick from Chris Page sealed a 3-0 victory.
Simons took his tally for the day to three goals in a 3-2 win against Spalding in the men’s second game with Toby Phillips scoring the third.
The men finished their games with a tricky test against Dereham, who were promoted to the Premier Division last year.
A reverse-hit put Dereham in front before Pelicans created and squandered a number of good chances in front of goal.
Dereham doubled their advantage with a second goal from a short corner towards the end.
It was a strong and promising day for the men who start their league campaign at home against Cambridge Nomads on Saturday.
The ladies, who narrowly missed out on promotion last term, faced three sides who were playing in the league above them last season.
After a goalless draw against Spalding in their opening outing, the ladies defeated Wisbech 1-0 thanks to a delightful reverse flick into the goal from captain Jane Proctor after a cross from Bianca Fraulo Hilario.
Although they narrowly lost their last game 1-0, the team put in three strong performances and allowed some younger squad players to display their talents.
The ladies’ first game this weekend is away to Cambridge South 3s.
