Only two games beat the rain in girls’ league

Wet weather continued to hamper the Mid Norfolk Youth League Girls’ divisions last Saturday, with only two matches surviving across the two age categories – with Heacham the venue for both.

In the U14s, Terrington made the trip and came away with a point for their efforts. They took the lead just before the break when Sophie Codrington turned in an Alice Todd centre, but it was Heacham who struck back early in the second half through a typical Summer Mann strike.

In a close battle, Terrington again edged ahead when Summer Ringer left the Heacham goalkeeper with no chance, finding the top corner with a goal out of nowhere. The home side were not to be denied though, and equalised for a second time in the game when Daisy Deadman slotted cooly home to make the final score 2-2.

At U12 level it was the evenly matched teams of Heacham and Necton that faced off. The early exchanges saw neither side able to break down some resolute defending although Heacham went close to breaking the deadlock, striking the post following a dangerous corner routine. It was eventually Halle Ewen who managed to do so for Necton, giving the away side a 1-0 lead at the break having found the bottom corner when she broke through the opposition backline.

The second half saw Necton put in one of their strongest displays to date. New signing Joergie Richardson was unlucky not to cap her debut with a goal when she danced through Heacham’s defence, only to see her effort hit the post. This time Coral Jones had gambled and calmly popped home the rebound.

In the dying moments, Hollie Laws put the cherry on the Necton cake, when her low angled strike across the Heacham keeper added their third, sealing the 3-0 win. The Heacham girls never gave up and more than played their part in a great advert for girls’ football.
