Only two competitive fixtures survived the combination of school holidays and Storm Babet in the Mid Norfolk Youth League (MNYL) Girl’s provision this past weekend, with pitches up and down the region hammered by the constant rainfall.
In the Under 14 division it was Terrington Tigers that secured the points away to Watlington, with the fixture having been reversed to allow it to go ahead.
A much improved Watlington side was causing the Tigers a number of problems, with Sophia Dudley getting her name in the history books by scoring her side’s first-ever league goal, keeping the score to a 2-1 deficit at the break.
Terrington eventually saw the plucky challengers away though, with their goals coming through Izzy Wood (2), Summer Ringer, Alice Todd and Alice Wenn. The final score 5-1.
Huge credit should go to Gaywood U12 club officials for getting their game on at home to Necton, with one corner of the pitch having been submerged the evening beforehand. They got their reward, returning to winning ways with a hard-fought 4-0 victory.
Ellie Wright opened the scoring with a close-range finish. The lead was doubled when Erin Frost fired into the bottom corner after a strong solo run. Taylor Scotney poached Gaywood a third before half time, with her fourth of the season.
Coral Jones went close for Necton after the break, but it was Erin Frost again at the other end to put the result beyond doubt.
Credit should go to all players who endured some very challenging conditions on the day.
The fledgling Under 10 sides met once again on Sunday morning, despite the player availability difficulties often seen around school holidays. Clubs would love to hear from anyone who may be interested in getting involved, so please feel free to message mnylgirls@gmail.com for further details.
