North Runcton strengthened their grip at the top of the Premier League table with another ruthless performance.

This time, local rivals Fakenham were on the receiving end in a rain-affected encounter.

The league leaders now enjoy a commanding 69-point lead over second-placed Norwich, with just a handful of games left to play.

Heavy rain caused a delayed start at the North Runcton ground, with the match reduced to 20 overs per side and teas taken early.

Having won the toss before the weather intervened, the hosts opted to bat first.

That decision seemed questionable when star batsman Kirwin Christoffels, the Alliance’s leading run-scorer this season, was bowled by Jack Rowley off the first ball.

However, the early blow only set the stage for a stunning comeback.

The Payne brothers – Jasper and Alec – counter-attacked in style, compiling a 99-run partnership for the second wicket.

Fakenham were left to rue several missed chances in damp conditions.

Rowley eventually struck again, removing Alec Payne for a lively 38 (24 balls, 3 fours, 2 sixes), stumped by Max Parsley.

Runcton continued to accelerate. Jasper Payne played with flair, particularly strong through the square, before falling for a classy 69 off 56 balls (6 fours), caught by Owen Cole off William Carter.

Late fireworks from Jacob Lockheart (18 off 15) and Ben Coote (29 off just 14, including two sixes) lifted the home side to a commanding 175-4 from their 20 overs.

Fakenham’s bowlers struggled in difficult conditions. Rowley was the pick with 2-40, while Luke Caswell and William Carter claimed a wicket apiece.

In reply, Fakenham made a promising start with Christopher Read (27 off 14) and William Dewing (12 off 13) racing to 31 in four overs.

But once Christoffels bowled Read and Lucas Triffitt had Dewing caught by Jasper Payne, the collapse began.

Triffitt produced a sensational spell – his best of the season – claiming 5-20 in four overs, including key wickets of Harry Bammant, Caswell, Billy Yarham, and Parsley.

He was ably supported by Coote (2-22), Christoffels (2-21), and Odi Modimokoane (1-26), as Fakenham fell well short of the target.

With the visitors crumbling under sustained pressure, North Runcton cruised to another emphatic win.

Joint Players of the Match honours went to Jasper Payne for his all-round effort and Triffitt for his devastating bowling display.
