Nominate your Sportsperson or Team of the Year for awards

The deadline to nominate heroes from all walks of life is fast approaching – but you still have time to have your say.The Your Local Paper Local Hero Awards are set to honour inspiring people from our area once again this year.Nominations are still required in the Sportsperson or Team of the Year category, where recent winners have included Jody Cundy, Heacham Football Club, and Oliver Kenny.There have been some notable sporting achievements over the last 12 months.Individually, there have been some brilliant feats by sporting stars across West Norfolk in recent months.Teenage athletics star Rebecca Johnson won a silver medal at the National Schools’ Championships back in the summer, while BMX racer Jared Hill recently won selection to the GBCT Olympic Development Squad after winning a bronze medal in the European Championships.How about karting ace Jenson Sayell, who enjoyed an exceptional 2024, winning the SuperOne Series and finishing runner-up in both the CKC and HKRC Championships? Team-wise, the Linnets have enjoyed an incredible few months after defying the odds to avoid relegation from the National League North last season. Anglian combination side Watlington Sports and Social Club completed a memorable league and cup double by winning promotion and lifting the Norfolk Junior Cup.West Norfolk Rugby Club’s men’s and women’s teams are both enjoying memorable campaigns in what is their centenary season.Nominees for our awards must live or work within the borough.
