King’s Lynn Golf Club held their captain’s drive-in to welcome in the new faces for 2025.Members saw the changeover of club captains, symbolised by the putt out and putt in.Outgoing captain Richard Brown started the proceedings by selecting the length and line of the putt, which was a 60-foot downhill on the 18th green, with the flag hidden away by the steep saddleback in the green.Brown putted to within 10 feet, an effort not bettered by outgoing junior captain Lily Goodliffe, Claus Neilson and Elaine Calvert. It came down to outgoing captain Mary Wilson to end up just three feet from the pin to win the play-off.The new captains drove in with a good crowd watching with new club president, Kwai Li, on hand, as always, to take photos of the proceedings. Claus Neilson drove 169 yards, Elaine Calvert drove 100 yards and 13-year-old Albie Patterson straight down the middle at 199 yards. The greensomes competition was played in good spirits, with some excellent scores.Speed of play was excellent, as everyone wished to get in before the heavy rain forecasted, so there was no slow play! Members then enjoyed the carvery after play, with over 80 in attendance. Results: Winners: Lisa and Paul Back with 44 points. Second: Paul McDowie and Danny Davenport on countback. Third: Paul Abbott and Shaun Freestone. Nearest the pin: 5th: John Gowers. 16th: Julie Proctor.
