Morgan Williams is ready to hit the ground running for the Linnets.
The tenacious midfielder, 20, has spoken with maturity and excitement about his move to the club after spending the bulk of his career at AFC Wimbledon.
Williams, who spent time on loan at Woking and Dorking Wanderers last season, believes those experiences have given him the tools needed to thrive at the Docherty Walks Stadium.
“I’ve learned so much about how to play in different scenarios and at different levels,” said Williams.
“Those experiences have really helped me grow, and I’m hoping to bring all of that here.”
The youngster brings with him not only National League experience but also an international pedigree, having represented Wales at youth levels since the under-15s.
He featured in Chris Gunter’s farewell match with the Dons – an occasion he describes as “pretty special.”
“Playing in Gunter’s last game and making my debut in the same match, it was a real honour,” said Williams.
“That’s what football is about, those moments that stay with you.”
Williams made his professional debut in a Wimbledon shirt in a final-day clash against Grimsby, but after nearly a decade at the club, he admits it was a bittersweet ending.
“Wimbledon was the only club I ever really knew,” he revealed.
“I had aspirations of making a name for myself there. I think I played well when I got the chance, but the team was doing brilliantly, getting promoted to League One. ”
Now, at Lynn, he’s relishing the clean slate – starting at home to AFC Telford United on Saturday,
“I want to bring energy and excitement, both ends of the pitch,” he said.
“Breaking up play, playing key passes in the final third, popping up with goals and assists, I want to be that all-round eight. Just do everything I can to help this team succeed.”
Williams is also full of praise for the competition and camaraderie in the Linnets’ midfield.
“There’s real quality here, and it keeps everyone sharp,” he said. But it’s friendly competition. If you’re on the bench, you’re backing the boys, and they do the same for you. That unity will take us far.”
The youngster is eager to prove his worth and play a key part in what he hopes will be a promotion-chasing campaign.
“I want to be a mainstay in this side,” he said.
“The manager was a very integral part of my coming to this club. He has a very clear pathway for this season, and it’s just really good to be on board, help push the team up, and hopefully get this club back to where it belongs.
“His belief in me has meant a lot, and I just want to repay that on the pitch. This is a team with real ambition—and I’m here to help deliver on that.”
After last weekend’s pre-season friendly against Spalding, Lynn head coach James Rowe revealed that Williams had been on the radar of Championship outfit Charlton over the summer
“I was surprised by Morgan Williams because he went to Charlton, and he’s been there for three weeks.
“He was all set to sign, but it’s broken down there and we’ve taken advantage of that.
“He’s had many League Two appearances and in League One and when Wimbledon played at Chelsea, I think he got Man of the Match, so it is a feather in our cap and I think he’s a great signing.”
