Matas picks up top spot for West Norfolk

West Norfolk Athletic Club has a new Quad Kids champion after the first event of the season.

Under-11 athlete Matas Petreikis picked up first place overall with a total of 223 points – his biggest points haul yet.

Petreikis claimed two personal bests in both the 600 metres and sprint and was the only competitor to jumpo more than two metres.

The club also had four other juniors in action.

James Watts made his quad kids debut with some brilliant performances, his best in the 600m run with 2.18.6 and overall 17th place and 121 points.

Jacob Dale was 12th overall on the day with another solid set of performances and 155 points.

Dale’s best event was the 600m (2:21.2) while he also accumulated big points with his howler throw of 21.74, just shy of his PB.

Lastly for the boys Liam Allitt finished in 10th overall, with the 600m (2.13.9) gaining him the most points and a 1.61 jump his next best for 165 points.

For the girls, Hermione Morby Jones made her debut and did very well for 28th overall in what was a big field.

Her best points were in the 600 with 2.33.6, closely followed by a 13.8 sprint on the way to a total of 110 points on the day.

Sofia Gilboy joined her with 120 points for 23rd overall with her highest scoring event the sprint with 13.5 and jumped well with 1.43.

Following in the juniors footsteps with multi events, Sammy Stringer was in action at the Sunny Hunny Tri, where she finished in a time of 1.11.15.

Meanwhile, a number of West Norfolk athletes travelled to Milton Keynes last Saturday for the opening match of the Division 3 North Southern Athletics League and finished sixth overall.

There were some great performances from a small be resilient team of seniors.

The team is made up of men and women from under-17 to veterans but with everyone competing against each other in the seniors category.
