West Norfolk Athletic Club’s young athletes were in fine form over the weekend with the South Eastern Athletics championships at Crystal Palace.Although hampered by some issues around the venue, the athletes went on to put in some stellar performances.Elly Jackson, U15, was fresh off the back of winning the high jump and a second place in the triple jump at the East area Prep Schools Championship. She followed this up with a 1.40 jump at the SEAA champs for eighth place.Jackson has recently secured a sponsor to aid her athletic journey, so she would like to thank March Physiotherapy Ltd for their support.Older sister Isla (U17) consistently showed her impressive results in the triple jump, finishing with 10.30 for 11th place.U13 athlete Matas Petreikis participated in his first SEAA champs, a daunting experience for younger athletes, but he performed extremely well.Petreikis recently broke a long-standing club record in the 75m hurdles and followed that up with an impressive 13.78 in his heats, qualifying for the final. With a busy day which also included a 1.40 high jump, finishing fifth and just off the podium, and another 4m plus long jump (battling a headwind) with 4.07, he chose not to run the final. An impressive and busy day for them all. The club also assisted in the Beat the Tide race on Sunday. The tide and strong winds meant the race had to be put back slightly, but WNAC would like to thank the council for running the event and all of the club’s volunteers.Youngsters Jessica and Lauren Lawrence had a fantastic morning coming in second and third female and took home a trophy for their efforts.
