There was a mixture of joy and despair for Jenson Sayell in the opening two rounds of the Super One Series at the GYG circuit in Wales over the weekend.Marshland St James Sayell claimed pole in Saturday’s qualifying session. With heavy rain before Heat One, Sayell went for wets and pulled out a gap early on.But the track dried quickly and Hobbs on dry tyres came through rapidly to win comfortably Sayell held onto second but was promoted to first after post-race checks. With another heavy downpour before Heat 2, Sayell opted for wets but once on track it was clear the choice was wrong. Those on slicks came through and the youngster finished ninth. The trophy final was dry and Sayell, starting fourth, moved into third on the first lap but didn’t have the pace to pass second-placed Moulton finishing on the podium in third. Sunday’s format was straight into qualifying and Sayell finished second. With changing conditions, the team opted for slicks with the majority of the grid for Heat 1. The track was dry as they went onto the grid but the rain dropped heavily on the formation lap. Roach, on wets, won by 36 seconds and Sayell finished fifth.Heat 2 was almost the same situation in reverse, Sayell opted for wets. This time the track dried and Sayell, using his spare engine, finished fourth. Sayell started fourth for the trophy final. The field was on a mixture of wets and dry tyre tyres and Sayell opted for slick tyres. Those on wets had the initial advantage, pulling out a massive lead. But the track started to dry and by the end, albeit too late, Sayell’s lap times were matching the leaders as he finished fifth. With only a week to the Fourth Round of the HKRC Championship, the team need to resolve the power issues. Jenson’s dad Rob said: “I was very pleased with how Jenson coped with engine issues this weekend. “The weekend should have been better results-wise but the engine and constantly changing weather conditions made for a tricky weekend.”TWR were very supportive, and Force Motorsport took the main engine to check.”Sayell thanks sponsors JLK Vehicle Solutions, Ark East Anglia Ltd, and Professional Aesthetic Enhancements, Lynn, plus Chris Phillips- Superstox 99, Prestige Designs and Infinity X.
