Super One Micromax champion Jenson Sayell sported a smart new livery for Hunts Kart Racing Club’s Round 9 at Kimbolton as he boosted his hopes of another title over the weekend.
After a difficult first two heats, the Marshland St James driver won heat three and the final to end the meeting on a high and further strengthen his HKRC championship bid.
Sayell’s Micromax class was joined by Honda Cadets and Iame Waterswift karts for the weekend. Sunday’s format was three heats with random grids and a final with the grid based on heat results.
Despite pulling out a small lead by lap four of the opening heat, Lucien Smith and Maximilian Braskov were close behind Sayell.
Smith took the lead on lap 7 of 10 with Braskov on Sayell’s bumper for the remainder of the race, the three karts crossed the line in the same order just 0.07 apart.
For Heat two, Sayell started on pole, but had to settle for third spot come the chequered flag as the positions swapped regularly during the race.
The youngster started third on the grid for Heat three with Braskov taking the early lead.
Sayell took up the running on lap two however and Braskov outbraked himself a lap later spinning and dropping to seventh allowing Smith up to second. Sayell was in command at the front pulling out a 4.5 second lead from Smith by the flag seven laps later.
The heat results put Sayell second on the grid for the final with Smith on pole, Braskov and Alessandro Sarlas on row two.
Smith held onto the lead at the start with Braskov demoting Sayell but only briefly.
Sayell overtook both karts in one move for the lead on lap four and gradually pulled away as Smith and Braskov battled each other. Sayell was clearly pleased to take the win 2.2 seconds clear from Smith.
“We made a couple of changes after heat two to improve handling which paid off” said mechanic and father Rob Sayell.
“The Gear Up team boss disbanded the team last month, so we decided to run our own livery made by Jake Designs to end the year. Jenson is very happy with it” he explained.

Sayell’s next outing will be for the annual London Cup event at Rye House Raceway at the end of the month. Sayell won the London Cup in 2021 whilst in the Bambino class.
Meanwhile the team continue to seek sponsor partners for 2024 and hope to announce championship entries by the end of the year.
