Blyth Spartans 0 King’s Lynn Town 1Jonathan Margetts scored for the second successive match as King’s Lynn Town stretched their unbeaten run to seven games in the north-east.Margetts was on target from the penalty spot – his third goal in two games – as Lynn continued their recent good form in the National League North. It was a scrappy win, but manager Adam Lakeland won’t care as his team extended their unbeaten sequence on their travels to five matches.Margetts was responsible for winning the spot-kick after he was pushed over as he chased a ball from midfielder Cameron Hargreaves while goalkeeper Paul Jones produced several fine saves to ensure that Lynn went home with a clean sheet.Manager Lakeland told the club’s media team after the game: “I think there was a lot of pressure on both teams today, given where we are in the league and having closed in on them in recent weeks.“But I just always felt that if we were solid and we defended well that we’d have one or two opportunities and it came in the form of a penalty for Jonny. Jonny was really cute how he got across his man got to the ball first.“It was just a resolute performance really from there on in. I didn’t really think there was a great deal in the game. They obviously came after us when we when we took the lead and put us under quite a lot of pressure.“I think Paul Jones was outstanding, he made three top-drawer saves, two especially in the second half and that’s what the best goalkeepers do – when they are called upon they make big saves at big times and every credit to him for that.“But I felt the lads in front of him as well, to a man, put a right shift in today and that’s the type of performance and doggedness you need to have when you come to places like this. I thought it was a real, gritty and spirited performance by us again.”Results also went Lynn’s way this afternoon as Darlington, Rushall Olympic and Banbury United all tasted defeat in their respective matches.Today’s result leaves Lynn sitting 19th in the league standings and three points above the drop zone ahead of Tuesday night’s trip to Bishop’s Stortford. The win draws them level on points with today’s hosts and just two behind Southport as more teams get dragged into the relegation mix.Blyth Spartans: Mitchell, Evans, Liddle (Siziba 74), Bodenham, Cook, Forbes (Hooper 74), Deverdics, Oliver, McGowan, Gardiner (James 64), Reeve.
