Radcliffe 1 King’s Lynn Town 2King’s Lynn Town manager Adam Lakeland was full of praise for debutant Finlay Barnes after seeing his side return to winning ways at Radcliffe this afternoon.Barnes was a constant menace to the home side in a game where striker Jonny Margetts found the back of the net twice to hand Lynn the three points.Margetts headed Lynn ahead in the 26th minute and sealed the points with a delightful chip 20 minutes from the end after Brad Roscoe had nodded Radcliffe back on level terms going into the interval.Margetts has now netted four times in as many games after missing the first two games of the campaign through suspension.Reflecting on the performance of Barnes – signed from Braintree Town on Thursday – Lakeland said: “I thought he was electric to be honest, he was so good.”We knew that if we worked the ball up to him and Ross (Crane) we’d have quite a bit of space on transition and they are both a real threat. “They both travel with the ball well and want to try to go past the opposition and he’s only trained with us a couple of times. “We had to work hard up until 5 o’clock last night to get him eligible to play today so a lot of credit has to go to Julie (Biggs), the chairman and the National League, particularly Mark Ives, but we saw a glimpse today of what he will bring to us between now and the end of the season.”If that’s the output we got from him in his first game, he’s only going to get better as we learn and understand how to use him to our advantage.”The win lifts Lynn up to fifth in the National League North standings and Lakeland said: “I’m delighted with that win. “This is a tough place to come and they against a really difficult team to play against but I thought we were so disciplined throughout the game.”We managed the threats they had down the sides of the pitch and the numbers they get in the middle of the pitch incredibly well and we felt we’d have chances to hurt them on transition, which I felt we did, especially in the first half. “I felt we were the better team in the first half. We had a lot of possession and good control in the game, with and without the ball, and got into the final third countless times.”Outside of the goal we’ve scored, their goalkeeper has made a couple of good saves, one from Ross and one from Fin and we were well worthy of being ahead in the game. “But then to go go and concede a goal from a set-play was disappointing but the reaction to that setback in the second half was really pleasing.”Two halves of football are not usually the same in this league against a good side who score a lot of goals and keep going until the end we knew that they’d put us under a lot of pressure at some point in the second half but I felt we dealt we managed it pretty well and stood up to it.”I always felt we’d get another opportunity on the break and Johnny has popped up with an unbelievable finish and I feel that we probably deserved that three points today and I’m really pleased for the players and the supporters who have travelled all of the way up to get behind the team.”Radcliffe: Hewelt, Smith (Dudley 79), Maynard, Hancock (Thornley 79), Hulme, Oyibo (Rowe 67), Navarro (Duxbury 73), Roscoe, Wardle, Walker (Morgan 73), Sargent.
