Rink hockey players from Lynn remain on course for a league and cup double after coming from behind to beat Middlesbrough 8-3 in the National Cup.
The team are off to Herne Bay on Sunday for the cup semi-final and a potential final on the same day.
They will travel with Lynn’s Under-11 side who, after a fantastic season together, are involved in their National Cup final earlier in the day.
After a slow start, the side once again found their form to beat their northern opponents and continue their recent momentum on the rink.
The hosts made an uncharacteristically slow start as they conceded within just 20 seconds of the first whistle.
Lynn seemed to wake up after a fast start from the visitors and began to take control of the possession in an attempt to break down the Northern side, but it was Middlesbrough who struck again after a clinically-finished counter attack.
The home side regrouped once again and it was Lynn’s Owen Norris who stepped up for the hosts to score with a great individual effort.
Lynn were now moving the ball round fluidly, patiently waiting for an opening in the Middlesbrough defence. Next on the scoresheet was Jack Tucker as Josh Taylor played a defence-splitting pass defence to find him at the far post.
Now in full flow, and with some fresh legs on the rink, Beth McCarthy was next to add to Lynn’s tally with a flick shot against an unsighted keeper from the halfway line.
Lynn now looked a lot more relaxed and in control of the game, and with only a few minutes left in the first half, Taylor added two goals to his season’s tally.
One was an individual effort where he took it round the goalkeeper to finish into the net, and the other was assisted by Thomas Barker for a deft near-post finish.
It was now Lynn’s game to lose, as they started the second half with a 5-2 lead.
However, their young opponents were determined to fight hard so it wasn’t going to be easy for King’s Lynn.
After moving the ball around well it was Josh Taylor who was able to complete his hat-trick after a well-worked team move.
With Boro still playing hard, they were rewarded for their efforts as they won a penalty which was clinically converted to pull a goal back.
With plenty of rotation for the Lynn side they experimented with different combinations, but it was Jack Tucker who finished his brace for the side.
Finally it was Josh Futter who scored Lynn’s final goal following a well-worked team move that found him waiting at the far post to drive the ball home.
Thanks to all the supporters that came to watch and also the timekeepers and officials which led to a smooth and well managed game.
Thanks also to Daren Didcock for stepping into manage the team.
