King’s Lynn Youth Boxing Club had four fighters in action at Norwich and Chatteris last weekend.Friday night saw a welcome reunion for coaches Richard Girdlestone and Mel Payne with Spencer Grey, coach and chairman of the Norwich Club. The two coaches worked closely with Grey at Ferry Street Boxing Club many years ago.In the ring, Lynn had Jack Fox taking on Tommy Bailey in what proved to be a hard-fought contest. Both boxers came out strong and exchanged some good shots before home fighter Bailey was awarded a split decision, but Fox still received warm applause from fight fans for his display. It was then onto the Fenland Sparta show, at Chatteris, on Saturday night.First up was Albie Mallet against Louie Gill from Sparta with both youngsters making their debuts in the ring.Mallet kept his hands high, jabbing fast with some good foot movement in what was a pleasing performance. Lynn’s Joaron Koci was pitted against Jackson Bennet and scored well with both hands on his way to an unanimous victory. The final fight saw ‘Turbo’ Harrison Booth, who was matched against Matteo Morales of Northampton Boxing Club. Both boxers traded punches with both hands from start to finish in what was an excellent performance from Turbo – much to the delight of his coaching team.
