Wiggenhall Bowls Club recently held their inaugural four-team tournament.
Staged in lovely sunny weather, the event brought teams together from Lynn, Shouldham, Clenchwarton and hosts Wiggenhall. With each club providing teams of eight players, they played two blocks of four players.
After a total of 24 games of six ends played in a round-robin format, Lynn were victorious, winning by nine shots ahead of second-placed Wiggenhall, followed by Clenchwarton and Shouldham.
The event was sponsored by Smiths the Bakers Ltd, with the individual clubs competing nominating a charity before the event to receive a £50 donation.
The winning team from Lynn nominated the Hunstanton RNLI. In addition to the money, Lynn was also presented with the Smiths the Bakers Trophy.
Lynn captain Brenda Bell, on receiving the trophy, congratulated Wiggenhall on the organisation of the day, saying: “After having such an enjoyable day, we very much look forward to returning next year to defend the trophy.
“I know all the teams today have had a great time with some very close games played in a friendly atmosphere.”
Players enjoyed a Van Pelts the Butchers hog roast lunch, followed by desserts and cakes, which were very much appreciated by all.
Event organiser for Wiggenhall, Paul Brandon, added: “The day was certainly a success, with everybody enjoying the occasion.
“The weather was kind and my thanks go to everybody involved with their generosity, giving time and donations, enabling the club to raise £630 towards much-needed club funds.
“Special thanks to Smiths the Bakers for their sponsorship involvement.”
As part of the day’s activities and fundraising, there were target bowls, a spider competition and a raffle.
Plans are already being arranged to stage the event again next year.
