A King’s Lynn BMX rider is seeking sponsorship after taking a major step towards his dream of eventually competing at the Olympics.Jared Hill, 16, has been picked to join the Great Britain Cycling Team Olympic Development Squad (World Class Program) as part of the BMX racing squad. The teenager had to attend three trials before having his selection rubber-stamped – but his podium spot at the European Championships in the summer is believed to have contributed towards his pick, together with his hard work and commitment. His selection is a major boost as he looks to follow in the footsteps of his multiple World and European champion dad Alan who has more than 50 UK titles to his name.It is now more important than ever for the youngster to impress on the international circuit over the next couple of years – but he needs extra financial support to help him achieve his next goal.Although the Springwood High School A-level student receives some support from Britsh Cycling, there remains a shortfall of funding to attend all of the races. The plan is for British Cycling to take the squad to three European rounds. But this leaves two World Cup races, three European rounds and the European Championships to fund. Jared’s mum Abi said: “To be part of the British Cycling ODS means Jared has the tools and support to achieve further success working towards his Olympic goal.”The benefits include access to Elite level coaches and support staff.”Attracting some extra sponsorship would allow Jared to get to more international races which will aid his progress and development with the aim of becoming a full-time Elite athlete in the future.” As well as his bronze medal at the European Championships, Hill, who has been racing for 11 years, has a string of other successes to his name. The Norwich Flyers BMX Club member was fourth at the world championships in 2022, seventh in the UEC European Cup in Zolder last year and third in the UEC European Cup at Ravels in Belgium. He is also a two-time British and National Champion (2022 and 2023) and was crowned Superclass regional champion in 2024.Anyone who might be able to help Jared with some extra sponsorship should contact his mum Abi by emailing: abihill17@yahoo.com
