Hundreds of students across West Norfolk are today discovering their GCSE results.

Students at King Edward VII (KES) Academy, Springwood High School and King’s Lynn Academy (KLA) in Lynn, Marshland High School in West Walton, St Clements High School in Terrington St Clement, Smithdon High School in Hunstanton, Iceni Academy in Methwold, Litcham School, The Nicholas Hamond Academy in Swaffham, Fakenham Academy and Downham Market Academy all receive their results today.

Cllr Penny Carpenter, cabinet member for children’s services at Norfolk County Council, said: “Today is a celebration of our students’ resilience and success. We are incredibly proud of what they’ve achieved and excited to see where their talents and aspirations take them next.

“For those who didn’t receive the results they hoped for, there is plenty of support available to help explore their options.”

Cllr Carpenter also extended her thanks to all school and education staff, including teachers, head teachers, assistants, support staff, and tutors for their dedication in helping students reach this milestone.

Fakenham Academy welcomed its Year 11s into the hall at 9am this morning, and nervous faces could be seen all around.

However, those soon turned into smiles and tears of joy after the envelopes were opened.

King Edward VII Academy (KES) in Lynn saw 65% of pupils in English and Maths achieve a grade 4 or above, while 50% achieved a Grade 5 or above.

This marks the best results ever in GCSEs for KES, improving by 9% in students achieving grade 5 and above in those subjects compared to last year.

Elsewhere, some 47% of students at Springwood High School in Lynn gained a grade 5 or more in English and Maths, and more than 13% gained a 7+. These are an improvement on last year’s results.

Science results at the school continue to excel, with 60% of students achieving a grade 5 or higher and more than 23% achieving a grade 7 in GCSE Science.

Students at Marshland High School are celebrating their best-ever set of GCSE results, marking a landmark achievement for the school community.

An impressive 66% of students achieved a grade 4 or higher in both English and maths, with 45% securing a strong pass at grade 5 or above.

Meanwhile, the “determination and resilience” of this year’s cohort of 110 students at The Nicholas Hamond Academy in Swaffham shone through in their GCSE grades.

Mark Woodhouse, principal of the academy, said: “It is easy to forget sometimes the pressure that surrounds our Year 11s and what they have gone through to get to this point in their lives.”
