King’s Lynn Town 0 Hereford 2King’s Lynn Town slipped out of the play-off places with a 2-0 home defeat to Hereford who replaced them in the top seven of the National League North table.Missed opportunities once again affected the Linnets who have now taken six points out of a possible 15 since early December.Lynn were camped in the Hereford half for long periods of the second half after falling behind to Remaye Campbell’s debut goal in the 42nd minute.Tate Campbell added a second deep in injury time as the Bulls claimed their first league success over Lynn for more than half a century.King’s Lynn boss Adam Lakeland stuck with the same starting line-up – and bench – from last Saturday’s fine 1-0 victory over Curzon Ashton.Hereford arrived with two former Linnets in their team – goalkeeper Theo Richardson between the posts and attacking midfielder Alex Babos. Josh Hmami had the first sight of the goal with his early effort taking a slight deflection before being gathered by visiting goalkeeper Richardson. Hereford responded with Jaiden White’s long-range strike whistling over the woodwork two minutes later.Kyle McFadden’s header went wide as Lynn stepped up the pace before Finlay Barnes crossed for Johhny Margetts, whose shot took a deflection and went behind for a corner. The visitors almost took the lead with a freak goal. Finlay Armstrong’s back pass took a huge bobble as goalkeeper Paul Jones went to kick the ball and his clearance cannoned off visiting striker Remaye Campbell and bounced wide of the target. Nineteen minutes before the break, a long ball over the top found its way through to Margetts who volleyed over. The opening goal arrived in the 42nd as Lynn lost possession from a free-kick and Jaiden White crossed the ball for Campbell to net on his Hereford debut. The rain from the first half turned to snow at the start of the second period as Lynn looked for a way back into the game.Hmami drilled one effort wide and Tommy Hughes steered another opportunity the wrong side of the post as the chances came and went. Ross Crane was introduced into the action for the final 25 minutes and the winger teed up Fimlay Barnes for a golden opportunity with his first touch but the frontman fluffed his lines from a few yards out.Margetts almost made amends but his volley on the turn after 75 minutes was tipped over the woodwork by the alert Richardson.Campbell made sure of the three points deep in injury time with Lynn pushing forward in search of a late equaliser.King’s Lynn Town: Jones, Crowe, McFadden, Wilson, Armstrong, Johnson (Crane 65), Taylor, Hughes (Forde-Brown 72), Hmami, Barnes, Margetts.
