King’s Lynn Town have bolstered their options with the signing of attacking midfielder Jack Lambert from Chester. The creative midfielder is probably best remembered for his playing spell at Darlington, where he netted 26 times in 88 appearances between 2021 and 2023.Reflecting on his switch to Norfolk, Lambert said: “I’m excited to be honest. I’ve just been dying to play football again and feel part of something.”Last year wasn’t great. I went to Chester and things got better. I enjoyed my time there, but again, I wasn’t playing anywhere near as much as I would have liked to.”Linnets fans may recall Lambert from Chester’s visit to The Walks on the final day of last season, where he ran the show in a 3-0 away victory.“I think we even thought it was weird,” he said, reflecting on that game.“We were looking around at half-time, asking what on earth had just happened there? “It’s probably, for that 45 minutes, as good as 11 players have played individually in that team. “It had a weird vibe to it, strange because King’s Lynn needed the result, but sometimes when the shackles are off, it’s tough to play against.”Lambert’s preferred role is as a number 10, playing off the left with the freedom to create.“Being a rigid out-and-out winger or centre midfielder probably doesn’t get the best out of me,” he explained. “I’m more than happy to do those roles, but I think a little bit of freedom is where my best output comes.”I try to bring creativity, something different, and hopefully chip in with a few goals, more than I have lately.” The 2022/23 campaign saw him notch 16 times, including hat-tricks against AFC Telford and Gloucester City, before earning a move to National League side Kidderminster Harriers on a two-year deal.He made more than 30 appearances for Kidderminster in the National League, contributing four goals and five assists, before finding himself frozen out for long periods last season. A loan return to Darlington – his fourth spell with the Quakers – followed before he moved to Chester in February this year. His football journey has also taken him far beyond the English leagues.During the COVID-19 pandemic, he had a short stint in Iceland with IBV.“It was like a pre-season for me because no one knew what was going on,” he said. “Their league was still open, and I had a mate out there who sorted me out. I treated it as a get-fit sort of thing but I was surprised by the standard.”The way of living was heaps and bounds on top of what I thought it was going to be, I really enjoyed it.”Now, Lambert is focused on the future and believes in what’s being built at The Walks.“It’s always been a big club,” he said. “At the start of the season, you look at the fixtures and you’re like, ‘Oh no, it’s King’s Lynn away.’”It’s a tough place to come and with the squad the gaffer is putting together, I think we’ve got every chance.”Despite a tough 2024 campaign, the Newcastle-born playmaker is optimistic about what’s next.“Yes, I’ve still got a lot more to give,” he said. “Two seasons ago was probably my best season and last season was sort of a one-off, but it shows how quickly things can change in football.”It was a strange, strange season, but I’m ready to put all that behind me and get going.”
