King’s Lynn Town embark on the FA Cup trail tomorrow with a trip to National League South club Chesham United.
The mid-table Generals finished in 13th spot in the table last season and, in view of results so far this season, look on course to at least repeat that feat with two wins, two defeats and four draws from their opening eight fixtures.
Looking ahead to the tie, head coach James Rowe said: “Well, I certainly know myself in terms of my history of what a Cup run can do. The rewards for the players are two-fold, really.
“If you can get into the first round proper and then go from there and lead into the third round, you can draw a Premier League club.
“That obviously fulfils a lot of dreams for players at this stage of their young careers or perhaps players such as Reece Hall-Johnson and Michael Clunan in the latter years of their careers, who perhaps haven’t had the opportunity to experience something like that.
“But also, it’s great for the staff and away from that, the supporters and the stakeholders of the club. If you can get a run together, the magic of the Cup certainly comes to the forefront.
“Chesham are a very difficult opponent who has had a very similar start to the season to us.
“They have some experienced lads. The managers have been there for a while, so they’ve got consistency, I’m sure, in their culture.
“It’s a difficult place to go, but look, if you want to go into the later rounds in this cup competition for teams at this level, you’re going to need to be able to go against the likes of Chesham and get a result.”
The Generals have drawn their last two league games after defeats against Chelmsford City and Hampton and Richmond, respectively.
The management duo of James Duncan and Michael Murray recorded their 300th game in charge in the goalless draw against Bath City on Saturday, having been in the hot seat since October 2018.
Former Linnet Alex Babos signed for Chesham in the summer, having made the switch from the National League North to the South.
The winners of this second round qualifying tie will receive £3,375 and the losers £1,125.
Earlier this week, Linnets striker Michael Gyasi was named as the National League North Player of the Month for August.
An incredible month for Gyasi saw him start the new campaign with a goal and an assist – it was a sign of things to come and then some.
He also hit a treble against Spennymoor and the leveller at Darlington before finishing the month with two goals and an assist against Merthyr.
