King’s Lynn Town have tonight sacked manager Adam Lakeland.Their dismissal comes a few days after the club released their retained list amid alleged claims from Lakeland of a huge budget cut next season. The Linnets finished sixth in the National League North table before losing 1-0 at Chorley in the play-off eliminator last month.A statement from the club tonight read: “King’s Lynn Town Football Club can confirm that first team manager Adam Lakeland has been relieved of his duties with immediate effect.”We would like to thank Adam for his efforts and commitment during his time at The Walks and wish him all the best in his future endeavours.”An update regarding the club’s managerial position will be provided in due course.”Former Curzon Ashton and Farsley Celtic boss Lakeland was appointed as boss in September 2023, with Lynn positioned 22nd in the National League North. He led the Linnets to safety in his first season before guiding the club to the play-offs last term, even though Lynn scored fewer goals last season than the campaign where they just escaped relegation. Lakeland demanded assurances from the club’s hierarchy over next season following the defeat at Chorley. But it appears the relationship with club chiefs has since broken down as talks continue between Singaporean investor Joseph Phua’s Turn Sports Investments and the Blue & Gold Supporters’ Trust about a possible takeover.Lynn’s potential new owners remain determined to put the club on a firmer financial footing after the club’s budget was exceeded last season. In an interview with BBC Radio Norfolk last Friday, Lakeland said there had been conversations all week and rather than being backed by the club, they had “gone the complete opposite way to what I thought and hoped that they would”.The northern-based boss also made it quite clear in the interview that he wasn’t prepared to travel to the other end of the country to manage a part-time team, should the club choose to take that direction. Lakeland oversaw 82 matches, achieving 35 wins, 21 draws, and 26 losses, resulting in an average of 1.54 points per game.During his tenure at The Walks, his two best signings came in the loan market. Midfielder George Morrison was a revelation during his loan spell from Fleetwood before going on to enjoy bigger and better things with Tamworth last season, while Cody Johnson was outstanding during his loan period from League One Stockport County last term.On Thursday night, a special general meeting has been called for Blue and Gold Trust members regarding the outcome of discussions between Bal Srai, from Turn Sports Investments, and the trust directors to develop a working relationship between the two partnerships..
