Warrington Town 1 King’s Lynn Town 2Gold Omotayo scored his first goal in over two months this afternoon as King’s Lynn Town returned to winning at Warrington.Omotayo struck a minute before the break and Tommy Hughes added a second goal three minutes into the second halfThe win moves Lynn back up to second spot in the National League North standings – behind league leaders Curzon Ashton on goal difference.Manager Adam Lakeland was looking for a reaction from his players following the 3-0 defeat at Scunthorpe United on New Year’s Eve – and he certainly got it as his side delivered a much-improved display on their travels.Lynn went into the match without the services of striker Jonny Margetts for a second successive game with the frontman nursing a knee injury while Josh Coulson came in for Tom Wilson at the back.Midfielder Cody Johnson also completed his first 90 minutes since completing the paperwork on his loan deal which will see him remain at The Walks on loan from Stockport County until the end of the current campaign. Lynn were well on top in the first half and took the lead when Omotayo converted Hughes’ ball into the box. The Linnets doubled their advantage three minutes after the restart with Freddie Sass crossing for Hughes to steer the ball home.Warrington reduced the arrears 20 minutes into the second half after Murphy Bennett whipped in a cross for Josh Amis to head home. The boot of Greg Taylor denied Amis and Warrington a certain equaliser at the back post with 18 minutes left on the clock while Omotayo missed a golden chance to make it 3-1 when he put an effort wide of the past after finding himself one-on-one with home goalkeeper Daniel Atherton late in the game. Lakeland’s side – at home to Oxford City next weekend – have played two or three more games than some of the sides in and around them in the play-off positions but are still sitting pretty compared to the same stage last season.Warrington Town: Atherton, Douglas (Southern 51), Woods, O’Neil, Amis, McDonald (Rodwell-Grant 85), Bennett, Amaral (Morris 66), Dixon, Hont, Clarke, Subs not used: Miles, McCourt.
