Curzon Ashton 0 King’s Lynn Town 1King’s Lynn Town delivered a statement win in their hunt for National League North promotion with a crucial win at play-off rivals Curzon Ashton.Midfielder Tommy Hughes scored the only goal seven minutes into the second half as manager Adam Lakeland got the upper hand over his former club for the first time since he left them 17 months ago.It was no more than what Lynn deserved as they ended a run of three games without a win in the best possible style at The Tameside Stadium. After the game, a delighted Lakeland told the club’s media team: “Great away performance by us and I felt we deserved it,” Lakeland told official club channels.”I felt we were the better team in the first half.”We got a little bit fortunate on one occasion in the first half where we turned the ball over and it hit both posts, but I felt we deserved that little bit of luck today because in the second half, they had more possession, but I felt we looked comfortable. “I felt we controlled a lot of the game, when we had possession, and then second-half when we had less possession. “I’m just really made up for the players. When you go away from home against the better teams in the league, you’ve got to be organised and disciplined and know that you’re probably going to have periods in the game where you’re not going to have possession.”It’s about being composed out of possession and being organised and then trying to use the ball well when you’re going the other way.”I felt we were close to getting the second with Fin Barnes, but a good clean sheet and an important three points for us.” Both sides had opportunities in an entertaining first half at the Tameside Stadium.Isaac Sinclair played a beautifully weighted pass through to Isaac Buckley-Ricketts, whose shot rebounded off both posts. Josh Hmami was the main source of danger for the visitors, forcing home goalkeeper Bobby Jones into a fine save after 26 minutes.Jones was on hand to deny Cody Johnson five minutes later as the midfielder tried to find the top corner of the net. Lynn eventually took the lead seven minutes into the second half after Hughes won the ball before continuing his run and slotting past Jones. And that’s the way it stayed as Lynn climbed two places up to fourth in the league table.Curzon Ashton: Jones, Sobowale, Poscha, Griffiths (Lacey 60), Buckley-Ricketts, Sinclair, Spencer, Mols (Curran 60), Hayhurst, Richards, Barton.
