Linnets lose defender to National League North rivals

Defender Tyler Denton is the first player from last season’s squad to leave King’s Lynn Town.

Denton, 27, has signed for Scunthorpe United – one of Lynn’s rivals in the National League North next season.

The left-sided player made a total of 94 appearances for the Linnets, scoring three times, after spending almost two years at The Walks.

Upon signing for the Iron, Denton said: “I’m delighted to sign. It was a good year at King’s Lynn, missing out on automatic promotion by a couple of points and then losing in the play-offs.

“I feel like that experience has helped me and I’ve come here to go one step better and take this great club straight back up.

“I play everywhere really – left-back, wing-back, centre-back and midfield. I like to keep the ball and I like to be a leader on the pitch and try to excite the fans.

“The gaffer’s ambition and aim is partly what has brought me here as well. We want to go straight back up and hopefully we can do that at the first time of asking.”

Denton was a firm favourite with Lynn supporters.

Linnets owner Stephen Cleeve said the travelling was too much for the former Leeds United graduate.

Cleeve took to Twitter to say: “Sad to see Tyler Denton leave the Walks but with his home moving to York, the travel was too much.

“Had hoped to agree on a time to release this news together but as so often happens with bigger clubs they do not care.

“Thanks for everything Tyler – you will be missed.”
