King’s Lynn Town 3 South Shields 1Gold Omotayo and Jonny Margetts both ended something of a goal drought as King’s Lynn Town picked up a welcome win in the National League North. The striking duo were both on the scoresheet, with Omotayo scoring twice, as the Linnets picked up a crucial three points – and climbed a place in the table – after firing blanks in three of their previous four games. It was no more than Adam Lakeland’s side deserved for a dominant display with Omotayo and Margetts giving The Mariners a torrid afternoon at The Walks. There was no Cody Johnson – missing for a third successive game – with Kyle Callan McFadden and Tommy Hughes joining him on the sidelines. At the same time, there was no place in the matchday squad for midweek arrival Matty Warburton.Lynn had the visitors firmly on the back foot in the opening few minutes with Gold Omotayo’s header from a Josh Hmami delivery forcing Myles Boney into an early save. Margetts got his head to a Freddie Sass centre but it lacked the necessary power to really trouble Boney, who made a comfortable stop down to his left. Coleby Shepherd appeared to be over-zealous with his challenge on Margetts in the penalty area – but referee Harry Warner was having none of it and waved away the home side’s penalty appeals.Robbert Briggs then blocked a goalbound effort from Josh Hmami before clearing Josh McCammon’s follow-up off the line as the hosts remained well on top.Lynn deservedly took the lead 13 minutes before the break – but there was a huge stroke of luck in the build-up. Josh McCammon appeared to foul David Carson inside the box before playing in Margetts, whose effort was blocked, but the ball trickled its way through to Omotayo who smashed home from three yards out.The lead lasted all of six minutes as Mackenzie Heaney crossed from the left and Robert Biggs rose highest to head emphatically past Paul Jones. But Lynn hit straight back to get their noses in front in the 42nd minute.Heaney left visiting goalkeeper Boney short with his header back and the alert Margetts nipped between the pair and slotted into the empty net. Tempers between both sides became frayed early in the second half after the visitors took exception to Greg Taylor’s grappling with Ashton Mee.Lynn’s Hmami then came in with a crunching two-footed challenge on Heaney, who swung a punch at the home midfielder, and handbags between both sets of players followed. Both Hmami and Heaney were booked for their troubles. An Hmami corner was headed back by Josh Coulson for Omotayo whose header was kept out by a fine save from Boney.McCammon found himself one-on-one with Boney midway through the half but his effort took a bobble and went the wrong side of the post. A long throw from Freddie Sass found the head of Coulson and went wide as another chance went begging for the hosts. But Lynn rubber-stamped the three points two minutes from the end when Omotayo bundled home a third and his second of a productive afternoon.King’s Lynn Town: Jones; Sass Coulson, Sass, Wilson, Crowe, Armstrong; Taylor; McCammon (Forde-Brown 90+3), Hmami; Margetts (Williams 70), Omotayo (Crane 90).
