Linnets climb out of relegation zone after dour goalless draw

King’s Lynn Town 0 Farsley Celtic 0King’s Lynn Town climbed out of the National League North relegation zone after picking up a point at home against Frasley Celtic in an uneventful goalless draw.Clear-cut chances were few and far between in a dour, stop-start affair but with Rushall Olympic losing 4-0 at Peterborough Sports, the Linnets leapfrogged the Pics in the latest league standings.Manager Adam Lakeland made one change to the starting line-up with Jonathan Margetts coming in at the expense of Quevin Castro who dropped to the bench.Kyle Callan-McFadden charged down Clayton Donaldson’s early effort as the visitors started the game on the front foot.Lynn’s first sniff of a chance came when Margetts crossed from the left but his delivery was hacked clear by the Farsley defence.Midfielder Cameron Hargreaves dragged an effort wide shortly after as the hosts began to grow in confidence.The flow of the game wasn’t helped by several stoppages in the opening 25 minutes.Lynn’s Ben Stephens drilled a free-kick into a wall of Farsley Celtic players before his second attempt from the rebound took a deflection and went behind for a corner.The biggest incident of the first half saw referee Darius Bradley withdraw from the game with a calf injury on the stroke of half-time before a plea over the tannoy for a qualified official from the crowd.Former Linnets goalkeeper Danny Gay, who last played for the club back in 2012/13, answered the SOS for an official at the start of the second period, dressed in full black attire at the far side of the pitch.Lynn’s Owen Devonport was incredibly lucky to escape with just a yellow card for shoving Farsley’s David Adewoju to the ground 20 minutes into the second half.Visiting substitute Conor Branson looped a late header over the Lynn woodwork while substitute Castro forced Zan-Luk Leban into his first gave of the game with six minutes left on the clock.The hosts replaced the ineffective Stephens with Castro as they looked for a spark in the final 18 minutes of a lacklustre encounter.Perhaps the best chance of the whole game came in the first minute of stoppage time after Devonport crossed from the left for substitute Bartosz Cybulski to head into the arms of Leban.King’s Lynn Town: Jones, Ronan, McFadden, Coulson, Taylor, Hargreaves (Walker 90), Morrison, Crowe, Margetts (Cybulski 80), Devonport, Stephens (Castro 72).Attendance: 881
