King’s Lynn Town boss Adam Lakeland believes his side is building some momentum as they look to secure their place in the National League North play-off eliminator on Saturday. The Linnets require just a point from their home game against Chester to finish fifth in the table and guarantee themselves a home play-off game on Tuesday night, with either Curzon Ashton or Chorley the likely opponents. If Lynn were to slip up in their final game, Hereford lose and Chorley and Curzon Ashton both win, Lynn would travel to Chester on Wednesday night.Speaking after the 1-0 win against Needham on Easter Monday, Lakeland said: “For us to be on 79 points and not be cemented in there, I think it’s just testament to the strength of the division, to be honest, and how many other good teams are in there.”As you say, we’re in the driving seat because we’ve got the extra points, but other teams have got the swing on the goal difference.”The message to the players at the end was we’re in good form, and you want to try and arrive in the play-offs with momentum, and we’ve certainly got that on our side. It’s another three points, another win, another clean sheet.”We’re looking solid, but we want to try and win that last game. I know a point gets us in, but I think it’s a dangerous game to try to draw a game of football, so we’ll be trying to keep that momentum going by trying to win the game. “But we know it’ll be a difficult game because it’s Chester are a good side. I think they’ve cemented fourth now, so, yes, we’ve just got to try and win it, but we are in the driving seat, and that’s the position you’d like to be in.” Lynn’s boss says he never doubted his side has what it takes to secure a top-seven finish.”We’ve been up there pretty much since mid-September,” he said.”We spent many, many weeks in the top three, and then we just had a little bit of a blip. We lost to Darlington, who were on our tails at the time. “We lost to Hereford, who overtook us, and the goal difference has always been against us.”But even when we dropped out on goal difference, I’ve always got confidence in this group of players and the team. “Mentally, we’re a strong group, and I knew that when we needed to find another gear and put a run together, I knew that we would because we did it last year when we needed to stay up.”I think that’s one defeat now in ten, so we’re in good form and I’ve never doubted us.” Chester’s away form against the nine sides currently occupying the top 11 places has not been particularly impressive, with just one win (Buxton) and two draws (Kidderminster and Hereford).Lakeland feels the club can benefit from an excellent defensive record this season.”Generally, at this stage of the season, it’s a tight game, and you need to be organised,” he said.”It’s little bits of quality or lapses of concentration and errors that decide the outcome of games. “We’ve had that ability. I think that’s now 19 clean sheets in the league, which is some going and hopefully that will stand us in good stead next week, as it has the last couple of games.”And if we do manage to get in there, then that will be a real weapon of ours, as to how difficult we are to knock over.”
