King’s Lynn Town fell to a 2-0 defeat at Isthmian League Mildenhall Town on Friday night, but manager Adam Lakeland feels his players are in great shape. The Lynn boss is confident “goals will come” once the new National League North season commences on August 10 after efforts from Kieran Twinn and Alfie Connor sank his side in Suffolk.Despite creating a host of opportunities in front of goal against their hosts, it was Lynn’s first blank of the summer as they got 90 minutes into the legs of Kian Ronan, Kyle Callan-McFadden, Gold Omotayo and Jonny Margetts.”It was an excellent workout for us and we’re frustrated and disappointed that we’ve lost the game,” said Lakeland.”I think we’ve created enough chances to win several matches but some poor finishing from us and good goalkeeping from their keeper has stopped us.”I thought we moved the ball well for long spells of the game and had a lot of control.”Lakeland added: “I think we’re in good shape. We’ve got a lot of new players and naturally it’s going to take a little bit of time for us to establish relationships and figure out how we get the best of them as individuals in the team. “I thought there were a lot of positives out there tonight. The players are coming together, they are working well and looking fit. “We’re looking much better with the ball and creating lots of chances.”With the firepower we’ve got at the top end of the pitch, there’s not going to be too many matches where we create that amount of chances and don’t score.”I’d rather it happen now in pre-season than when the season starts.”Tomorrow night, Lynn travel to Bury Town for their latest friendly.
