King’s Lynn Town 1 Scarborough Athletic 0A late thunderbolt from Greg Taylor saw King’s Lynn Town join Curzon Ashton at the top of the National League North standings.Taylor let fly from all of 25 yards for the only goal of the game as ten-man Scarborough Athletic, who had Richard Bennett sent-off early in the second half, were sunk on a filthy afternoon at The Walks. The three points saw Lynn pick up a third successive win heading into a home game against Alfreton Town next weekend as Adam Lakeland’s side joined his former club at the summit.Linnets boss Lakeland went with an unchanged starting line-up from the side that defeated Kidderminster Harriers 4-0 in their last outing. The injury-ravaged Seadogs, who included former Linnet Alex Brown in their starting XI, arrived in Norfolk with two league wins in their last 14.Lynn carved out an early opportunity as a long ball forward picked out Josh McCammon, whose crisp half-volley whistled past the wrong side of the post. Two minutes later, Tom Wilson directed a header wide after a delightful ball in from Cody Johnson. It took a fine save from Lynn’s Pat Boyes to keep the score goalless as he turned a deflected cross from Harry Green behind for a corner.Lynn began to take control and the fingertips of Ryan Whiteley came to Scarborough’s rescue as he tipped a long-range effort from Johnson over the woodwork after 25 minutes.Danger lurked at the other end as Darren Dom-Tear created an opening for Richard Bennett but Boyes was up to the task as he kept the big frontman at bay with a great reaction save down to his left. The game continued to ebb and flow and two minutes before the break Whitely was called upon to foil a glancing header from Jonny Margetts after a pinpoint ball in from Josh Hmami. Some last-ditch defending from the visitors denied Johnson at the start of the second half as the swirling wind and rain continued to disrupt the flow of the game. The Seadogs found themselves a man down six minutes after the restart as Bennett received his marching orders for picking up a second yellow card.Lynn introduced Ross Crane for the final 30 minutes as they looked to make their numbers on the pitch count. But it was the Seadogs who almost broke the deadlock in the 72nd minute as Alex Wiles saw his cross flash across the face of goal.Storm Darragh continued to make life difficult for both sides before Taylor picked picked the ball up outside the box before unleashing into the top corner of the net.King’s Lynn Town (4-2-3-1): Boyes, Sass, Crowe (Crane 62), Wilson, McFadden; Taylor, Johnson, Barnes (Hughes 90), McCammon, Hmami; Margetts.
