King’s Lynn captain Nicolai Klindt has been on an intensive winter fitness drive as he gears up for his return to racing in March. The experienced Dane, who is a popular and well-respected figure at the Adrian Flux Arena, has been desperately unlucky to be hit by serious injuries in each of the last two seasons.Barring an appearance in Poland at the very end of 2024, Klindt hasn’t raced since mid-June when he was ruled out with a fractured neck vertebra. And that means preparations for the upcoming campaign are even more important, with Klindt planning to be back on a bike in just over a month in the build-up to tapes-up at Lynn, scheduled for March 16 when Niels-Kristian Iversen stages his Testimonial meeting.Klindt has a busy UK season ahead as he has also signed to ride for Plymouth in the Championship, and he says he’s made good use of the winter as well as trying to take some consolation from an extended time out of action. He said: “I plan to go to Lonigo in Italy at the start of March for three or four days, and then the following week we will have Niels’ Testimonial and also our press day around that time.“But I’ve been physically active since September, where I’ve been doing cardio, strength work, gym and everything, and I’ve also been on a nutrition plan. It didn’t go too well over Christmas of course, but that’s one thing I haven’t previously been disciplined enough on post-season. “As many people know, when you get older it doesn’t take a lot of time before you put on a few pounds, and then it gets even harder to drop them before you start racing again. “I’ve managed to lose nearly half a stone, and then going into March will be the last stage so that I’m fully race-fit.“I feel really good, both physically and mentally, and when you look at bad things happening, of course, it was really bad that I got injured but sometimes you also have to look at the benefits.“Yes, it’s been tough because we earn our money racing so I haven’t earned since June, which depending on the way you look at it is catastrophic, but you can’t measure everything in money. “I hadn’t had a summer where I’ve been able to spend time with my kids for so many years, especially my youngest who’s just turned five, so it was good to have time at home with them, take them to school and so on.“I’m now really excited for the coming season and I’m looking to score the points to make a name for myself, that’s the plan for ’25!” Klindt will outline his plans for the year ahead at a special evening hosted by the Ourstars Supporters Club on Thursday, February 6 (7.30pm).Tickets are available in advance from ourstars23club@gmail.com with admission £4 for members and £5 for non-members. Season tickets will also be available on the night.
