Linnets boss Adam Lakeland felt it was important that his side made a winning start to the new National League North season. Two goals from Linnets striker Gold Omatoyo, who also missed a first-half penalty, either side of a Tom Hughes effort put a new-look Lynn outfit in total control before Matty McDonald netted a late consolation for Warrington in a 3-1 scoreline. The home side fielded six of their summer signings in their starting line-up – and all impressed – as the Linnets began the new campaign with a swagger.“It’s probably as good a start as we could have had really,” said the Lynn boss.“I think the main thing today was just three points. It’s so important that we got off to a good start, particularly here at home because as I’ve said numerous times in the past, we didn’t play well enough here at home in the past.”But today we’ve played well and got three very important points to get the season off to a good start.“I think going into any season you just want to get your first win on the board as quickly as you possibly can and I thought we thoroughly deserved it, I felt we were excellent all game. “The only disappointment was their goal – and that we probably have not scored more goals. “Bar the woodwork and some outstanding goalkeeping by their keeper the scoreline would have been even greater and a I think that reflected the game.”I felt we were the better team pretty much all game.”Meanwhile, Warrington boss Mark Beesley is tipping the Linnets to be in the promotion shake-up this season. Beesley saw enough in Norfolk to convince him that Lynn will be a major force in the months ahead.“We kept going at the end and got a goal back, maybe we could have nicked another to go to 3-2, but we were beaten by the better team. They were better than us on the day,” he told the Warrington media team after the game. “Although we started great and should have gone 1-0 up – if that goes in, it’s maybe a bit different – and over the piece, we created some decent chances where we’ve got to do better.“I’ve got no complaints about the result as they were better than us.“They were at it and in my opinion, they’ll be right up there this season. They’ll be in the top seven.”
