Ladies from Grimston Cricket Club were in action on Saturday with two teams taking part in the Norfolk Cricket Board Ladies Indoor Tournament.A late withdrawal from Denver Cricket Club required an additional team which Grimston were able to provide.Grimston B, captained by L.P. Shepherdly started their tournament with a match against Bircham CC, close friends after both sides’ inaugural summer season.The match passed amicably with Bircham securing the win against a fierce bowling attack from Jess Marshall.The first opposition for Grimston A were last year’s champions Downham Stow CC, with DSCC scoring 251 runs and the A team scoring 271 runs.This was an emphatic win against strong opposition and Sam White put in a superb performance behind the stumps with a rapid stumping.Next up was the Grimston derby, with Grimston A taking on Grimston B, this time captained by tactically astute Elaine Oldroyd. The A team ran out as winners again, the highlight being player-of-the-tournament Brittany Hay scoring 36 runs in an over for the A team. Grimston B finished off their tournament with a loss against resurgent Downham Stow, who were out for revenge following their defeat at the hands of Grimston A.Hayley Rudd provided the standout shot of the match – a beautiful straight drive for six runs.The final match for the A team saw a good-natured match against Bircham CC in what was a tight affair. The A team ran out as narrow winners to secure the 2025 championship, with a display of bowling dominance from Georgie White.A-team captain Bev Garnett was delighted with the performance from the whole club, saying: “Having debuted there for our first-ever tournament 12 months ago, and now returning to win the tournament just shows how far we have come.”New players are very welcome, Grimston CC Ladies train on Wednesday evenings at the Discovery Centre, 7-8pm.
