King’s Lynn Town will travel to Chester tomorrow, looking to give their supporters even more festive cheer.Lynn travel to the Deva Stadium on the back of a five-match unbeaten run, during which they have accumulated 13 points and kept five clean sheets on the bounce.Manager Adam Lakeland has transformed the Linnets into a robust unit. They are currently second in the National League North standings behind a Curzon Ashton side he built himself before switching clubs at the start of last season. What stands out this season is Lynn’s newfound defensive solidity, which has become the cornerstone of their title challenge.Another big performance against the Blues on Saturday will set the Linnets up nicely for their home clash against Needham Market on Boxing Day.Speaking after a 1-0 midweek win at Brackley Town, Lakeland said: “It’s another tough game against another good team and another big club, but what a game for us.”This was a great game for us after a different challenge last Saturday and Saturday will be another difficult game and different challenge – but the lads are relishing it. “Chester are a very technical team with good technical players who are capable with the ball and very dangerous if you’re unorganised.” The Lynn boss said that the club’s away form was key in their survival battle last season – and has continued to be vital during their resurgence this term.“I think our away form generally has been pretty good, all of 2024,” Lakeland said.“Of course, we had a couple of defeats at South Shields and at Chorley – you look at the first goal at Chorley: questionable. Certainly, the second goal at South Shields shouldn’t have been a goal. “Looking back, they cost us, but outside of them, before that, we were in decent form and picking up points regularly away from home.“So what was letting us down before this run of four home games was our form here at The Walks.”Lynn have never won any of their previous six league meetings against Chester – if Lakeland can change that statistic then his side really will be sitting pretty this side of the festive period.
