Downham Town and Heacham both recorded wins in the Thurlow Nunn League this afternoon while Swaffham Town suffered another home thumping.A 2-0 home win for Downham Town over Harleston at the Memorial Field saw Dale Stokes’ side join Thetford Town at the top of the Premier Division standings.Dylan Edge continued his recent good form in front of goal with a brace and now has five goals in as many games.Edge opened the scoring early in the game when reacting quickest after Charlie Royle’s initial effort had been saved before doubling the home side’s lead with a smart finish 15 minutes into the second half.Downham have 54 points from their 27 fixtures and have a game in hand over the Brecklanders, who have a much better goal difference, at the top. There was a welcome win for Heacham, who ended a run of three successive defeats, with a 3-1 victory over Cornard United at Station Road.Toby Hilliard fired the Magpies in front from 20 yards in the second minute before forcing the ball home for Heacham’s second of the game 18 minutes later. Cornard replied directly from a free-kick early in the second half while a goalline clearance from Jack Prentice and the woodwork kept the home side in front. Ben Dear made sure of the three points for Paul Hunt’s side by smashing home a third from the penalty spot in the 88th minute. The results sees Heacham move up a place to 15th in the table with 29 points from their 28 games.Fakenham Town – fifth in the league standings with 51 points from 27 games – were without a game this afternoon. In the First Division North, Swaffham Town’s wretched run of form continued when they suffered a 6-0 home drubbing at the hands of Gorleston Reserves. The rock-bottom Pedlars have now conceded 31 goals in their last six fixtures.
