Downham Town and Heacham both suffered heavy defeats on their travels this evening.
In the Isthmian League North, Downham Town were beaten 4-1 by Newmarket Town, while in the Thurlow Nunn First Division North, Heacham suffered a 6-0 thrashing at the hands of Ely City.
It was another tough night for Town in Suffolk, with home striker Stanley Leech helping himself to a hat-trick.
Leech opened the scoring after five minutes and added further goals in the 19th and 52nd minutes to complete his treble.
Artur Visocanskis replied for Downham.
Joshua Lee completed the scoring by adding a fourth goal in the 84th minute.
Downham did have some chances of their own, but were denied by a couple of smart stops from James Young between the Newmarket posts.
The defeat leaves Dale Stokes’ side in the bottom four of the league table with four points after their opening seven games.
On Saturday, basement boys Brantham Athletic are the visitors to the Memorial Field.
There was no joy for Heacham during a wretched evening in Cambridgeshire.
The Robins opened the scoring through Kerr after 12 seconds before a brace from Thomas Stoker saw the home side go into the interval with a three-goal advantage.
It didn’t get any easier for the Magpies after the break as a rampant home side added more goals to their tally.
Jacob Partridge headed home a fourth goal eight minutes after the restart, Jack Friend lobbed goalkeeper Tommy Rix to make it 5-0 and before the same player added another to seal a one-sided win.
Paul Hunt’s side remain rooted to the bottom of the table with just a solitary point from their opening seven games, having shipped 23 goals at the back.
On Saturday, Heacham will be looking to restore some confidence when they host Yarmouth Town at Station Road.
