Heacham suffer huge injury blow as player suffers bad leg break

Heacham have suffered a huge injury blow after Lewis Gibson suffered a broken leg against Dersingham last night.

Gibson is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after breaking his right fibia and dislodging his ankle in the hastily-arranged friendly clash.

The midfielder was taken to hospital where x-rays confirmed the bad break.

Heacham boss David Griggs said: “It’s not nice to see any player suffer an injury like that, let alone one of your own.

“Gibbo never goes down and he knew straight away that he had broken it.

“He’s a nice lad and very popular with his fellow players and club. We hope he makes a speedy recovery and that we see him back in a Heacham shirt as soon as possible.”

The club confirmed the news in a Tweet this morning, saying: Sadly, it’s not good news for Gibbo. A broken Fibula and ankle. We are all gutted for Lewis.

“This is a really challenging time for Gibbo and we, as a club, will be doing as much as we can to support Lewis, his well-being and his recovery journey.”

The club are expected to have a collection for Gibson, who works as a self-employed dry-liner, as he recovers from his injury setback.

Heacham are working hard to strengthen their squad and hope to announce a new signing in the next few days.
