More than 100 fans were packed into the Grimston Cricket Ground on Friday night as Grimston CC Ladies took on Denver CC in the Women’s Softball Hundred League. The atmosphere was electric for a match which saw some of the very best women’s softball cricket – and Grimston’s highest batting total to date.Having won the toss and elected to bowl, Grimston took to the field with a strong line-up.B. Garnett was the standout performer with the ball taking two wickets, while C. Pegg and captain C. Nichols took one each, the latter a superb cutter which was caught by housemate LJ Rees behind the stumps.Denver batted well and finished their innings on a net score of 294.With an imposing total to chase down, captain Nichols led the charge for Grimston, opening the batting with G. White in a 30-run partnership.C. Richardson added 17 and E. Oldroyd contributed 16 runs in Grimston’s best batting performance to date. Grimston went on to score a net total of 325, winning their first league match by 31 runs. Captain Nichols was delighted with the result, saying: “This is the type of performance we’ve threatened all season, and to do it in front of a bumper crowd here is even better.”Full credit to Denver who are a lovely side and batted so well.”Grimston ladies’ training is on Monday evenings, between 6.30pm and 7.30pm.New players are always welcome.
