Saturday saw a top-of-the-table clash in Division Four of the Norfolk Cricket League, with Mundford hosting early front-runners Grimston.Having won the toss and elected to field, Grimston were quickly on the back foot with a formidable opening partnership of R. Yates and M. Rickard racing away to 75 runs before the first wicket fell.J. Norton and J. Brown were the next to the crease, adding a further 66 runs between them.By the time they had exhausted their overs, Mundford had amassed an impressive 213 runs for the loss of 8 wickets.James Allitt topped the bowling stats for Grimston, picking up three wickets with an economy of 4.67.With a hard chase ahead of them, Grimston owned the batting with veteran duo Tim Tilbrook and James Allitt.The openers used their craft and guile to build a partnership of 59 runs before Tilbrook fell victim to J. Brown in the 13th over. Mark Tilbrook added 43 to the tally, with Liam Woodcock also contributing 29 runs.As the innings drew to a close, the match couldn’t have been more evenly poised, with Grimston falling 17 runs short as the final wicket fell. Reflecting on a superb match, captain Jamie Frost was full of praise for his side, saying: “We know Mundford are a classy side, and at home they’re a level above that.”To come here and go toe-to-toe with them until the last few balls shows the strength we have. We can’t wait for the rematch and to have another go.”
