While cricket fans in Melbourne enjoyed the warmth of the Australian summer for the annual Boxing Day Test, Grimston cricketers celebrated the festive season in their own unique way: a cold yet spirited pairs match at Grimston Cricket Ground. The match brought together players of all ages, from eager youngsters to seasoned adults, embodying the true spirit of community cricket.Despite the biting cold, the players – wrapped in layers of clothing and fueled by mince pies – got stuck in with enthusiasm, displaying the camaraderie and friendly competition that has defined Grimston CC in recent years. The top-scoring batting pair were brothers Miles and Euan Harris, while the bowling performance of the day went to Stephen Pringle – father of youth player Jude – who will surely be making his debut for the senior side based on this performance.Following the match, the players warmed up in the pavilion with turkey curry and Christmas songs.Club official Sam Adkin was very happy with the turnout, saying: “To get 20 people down here in the depths of winter is a testament to the community we have – we had lots of food and lots of curry.”As the sun set over the misty cricket ground, players and supporters shared stories, laughter, and plans for the next season. Grimston are next in competitive action in the West Norfolk Indoor league, new players are very welcome.
