Grimston Cricket Club began their indoor cricket campaign at Alive Lynnsport with a tough opening fixture against a dominant Swaffham CC side. After winning the toss, Grimston chose to bat first, aiming to set a defendable target.Openers Sam Adkin and Leo Woodcock showed resilience at the crease, weathering Swaffham’s disciplined early bowling to score some valuable runs. However, the momentum shifted as the second pair, Dave Persey and Archie Ward, faced a relentless onslaught of accurate and aggressive bowling.Despite their best efforts, Grimston lost a few key wickets, denting their chances of building a competitive total. The innings concluded with a determined effort from Jamie Frost and debutant Mike Knight, whose resolute partnership ensured the team batted out their overs. However, Grimston’s total ultimately fell short of posing any real threat to a strong Swaffham lineup. Swaffham’s response with the bat was clinical. Displaying skill and composure, they cruised to victory with ease, never needing to leave first gear. Their performance highlighted the gap between the teams on the day, as Swaffham thoroughly deserved their comprehensive win.The bowling performance of the day was from Leo Woodcock who took two wickets against an NCA Premier Division batter.Grimston will look to regroup and come back stronger in their next fixture against Snettisham on Sunday, January 26.
