Jane Proctor bagged a treble as Pelicans warmed up for Saturday’s trip to league leaders St Neots with a convincing derby win over Long Sutton.
The ladies captain took her tally to the season to 14 goals as Pelicans continued their pursuit of a top-five finish in the East Women’s Division 2 North West.
Proctor, whose side have won their last three games on the bounce, said: “It was a great result in what is always a tough derby.
“It was another fine team performance and gives us plenty of confidence ahead of our trip to St Neots, which again will be a very tough game.”
In a clash that always has had a fierce rivalry, the skipper opened the scoring from one of Pelicans productive short corner routines.
The talented Long Sutton goalkeeper stood between Pelicans and an avalanche of goals and the visitors were forced to remain patient in their quest for a bigger lead.
Proctor doubled her side’s advantage with a fierce shot with Jessica Williams waiting to pounce on the post.
Amelie Beck registered her first goal of the season with a deflected effort past the busy Long Sutton goalkeeper.
The home side were a danger with a number of fast counter-attacks, but they were quickly dealt with by a resolute Pelicans backline.
A physical home outfit let their frustrations get the better of them with their player receiving a green card and getting sent to the sidelines.
Hot-shot Proctor sealed a fine victory and the subsequent player-of-the-match award with her third of the game as Pelicans, who have now scored 17 goals in their last three games, clinched the derby bragging rights.
