Fakenham Town and Downham Town remain involved in an eight-way tussle for Thurlow Nunn Premier Division glory. The Ghosts put themselves firmly back in the promotion picture on Tuesday night thanks to an injury-time winner at home to Cornard.Jake Watts’ 35th goal of the campaign helped Fakenham – without a game at the weekend – to a dramatic three points at the Daly Group Stadium. It leaves Fakenham third in the league standings – three points behind leaders Brantham Athletic – with six games left to play.Last weekend, the Ghosts recorded an important 3-1 home win against struggling Lakenheath.Jake Watts, Finley Whiteley and substitute Lewis Bonner were all on target. On Saturday, second-placed Downham Town begin a run of crunch games against sides in the promotion mix with a trip to Dereham Town. Two missed penalties cost Dale Stokes’ side during a 1-1 draw with Stowmarket Town last weekend. The penalty misses allowed Brantham Athletic, who also drew at Yarmouth on Tuesday night, to leapfrog Downham into pole position thanks to their 2-0 win at Thetford.Downham spent most of the first half in the home half but fell behind after 20 minutes. A tricky run from winger Ewan Gordon-Clement saw him set up Joel Simmons to net from close range.Finlay Shorten saved Eoin McQuaid’s 33rd-minute spot-kick when he dived low to his left before Matt Castellan eventually bundled home a McQuaid free-kick. Downham had the chance to claim the three points seven minutes into stoppage time.Shorten collided with Charlie Royle but substitute Dylan Edge placed the resultant penalty kick wide. Heacham, who drew 0-0 at Kirkley last weekend, also enjoyed a midweek win with a 3-0 victory over Sheringham at Station Road.Colby Wood poked home a free-kick to give Paul Hunt’s side the lead before Conal Forde’s corner was headed home by Jack Prentice to give the Magpies a 2-0 lead going into the break. Heacham’s third came from Karl Anderson’s corner as Calum Robinson glanced home a header. The Magpies were reduced to 10 men in the second half after Anderson picked up two yellow cards in quick succession.Heacham travel to Lakenheath on Saturday. In the First Division North, Swaffham Town are at Framlingham Town.
